Scape [1999]

Running time : 40 mins

DV/BetaSP

Scape is a real time panaorama of a skyline in Greenwich in South East London.

Shot over 45 mins in one long continuous slow pan, the skyline is slowly revealed in strata of architecture, through the frame of the camera. The film is desaturated and colourised, resulting in hypnotic impression of a city.
The colours pulse from positive to negative in grey, red, black and white, giving an apocolyptic and ethereal feeling to the work. There is no editing in this film.

The camera moves very slowly across the skyline revealing the incongruity of the city; (now demolished) 1960's blocks, 17th century churches, and cranes building around the Docklands.

Premiered at Calling London, at the Architecture Foundation 2001
