Sensory

(2000)

Sensory was specifically made to explore DVD as a film form and follow on from expanded cinema ideas and notion of a psychic interface.

I began to feel some 'expanded cinema' film makers during this period were actually making audio visual environments, but their only means to do so at that time was celluloid and a film context.

It was designed to be a portable environment for DVD that would create a contemplative audio visual space.

This was the first ever work for DVD shown at the ICA in London in 1999. It was shown projected with full dolby digital 5.1 surround sound.

Sensory is completely unedited and is computer generated artificial life sequence, combined with use of cameras.

Early tests for Sensory in 1998 provided a back bone for discussions about the music with Marvin Ayres. The visual sequences and the music were made simultataneously.
