LOCATIVE MEDIA WORKSHOP LATVIA 2003

http://locative.x-i.net/

This international workshop on Locative Media in Karosta was organised by http://www.rixc.lv/ and was centred at K@2 http://www.karosta.lv/

Karosta, Latvia, is indescribable, enigmatic and very powerful.

This 10 day workshop brought together international artists, thinkers, coders, musicians, and mobile computing specialists and visionaries..

Short experimental projects and research into Locative Media in the form of ideas, practice, discussion made this an extraordinary time. Its significance has yet to be fully realised...

Amongst other things during the time there... I started a Science Fiction film drama called "Karosta" collaborating with a group of local, extraordinary, Latvian Russian speaking young people with the film improvised and acted by them in Russian...

It tells the story of a gang in the future who set out to retrieve one of the Leader's brother from a capsule, where he has been sleeping for 15 years in the Restricted Zone...they navigate the world with portable computer and GPS devices to find the portal into the area...

The film was screened at DMZ at Limehouse Town Hall in the Autumn 2003

It was kindly supported by the Arts Council London.

THROBBING GRISTLE 2003

TG03/03/03 was a great night for those who came along, although the hour long master tape was destroyed by my co-collaborator. Stills and a page of the event will be on line shortly.

TG03/03/03 was an event to mark the 25th anniversary of a performance by Throbbing Gristle at the Architectural Association – a one night installation and playback of the original recording of the concert. The film consisted of the original location of the 1978 performance shot from the audiences point of view.

My film work stems from cinematic practise of independant film makers and film artists and writer, directors.

My early work was within a narrative structure, followed by a lengthy computer and non narrative phase, with the most recent films being a return to a narrative form and the new short film Central Control.

List of Films - there are many new film and video works which are not yet listed – including work shot in India 2002 - featuring new flute sound composition: One Place to One Place.
